JOHN GREEN’S LOOKING FOR ALASKA SUMMARY
Miles “Pudge” Halter, a wallflower of his town, seeks to find his “Great Perhaps” in a Boarding school. His life completely undergone metamorphosis as he entered the Culver Creek Boarding School. He was known as the guy who loved last words. However, out of all the last words he memorized, there were two which served as a reason for him to go on. "I go to seek a Great Perhaps." - Francois Rabelais and "How will I ever get out of this labyrinth?" - Simón Bolívar.
In boarding school, Pudge made friends with his roommate Chip “Colonel” Martin who took Miles as his subordinate. The Colonel made Miles’ nickname --”Pudge” , and introduced him to drinking, smoking, pranking, & Alaska Young. His other friends were a guy named Takumi, his lover named Lara and their girl best friend named Alaska Young. Alaska Young, a perilous yet intelligent girl to whom Pudge has been devoted to.
One night, Pudge, the Colonel and Alaska got drunk. Pudge was furtunate that night for he got what he have been always wanting to do -- to make out with Alaska Young. Suddenly, Alaska burst out of tears, and persuaded the guys to distract “the eagle” while she goes for a drive. All the fortunes that happened that night were disregarded as they heard that Alaska died. The news spread like lightning! Reasons behind her death were absurd for Pudge and his friends. Thoughts and questions lurked in the back of their minds; Was Alaska’s death an accident or was it her way of getting out of her labyrinth of sadness?
The affliction caused Pudge and the Colonel to blame themselves for Alaska’s death. The following dyas, both of them investigated. They searched for the police, called Alaska’s boyfriend, and found out whether her death was an accident or not. Pudge found himself searching for Alaska’s last words.
Later on, Pudge, the Colonel, Lara and Takumi came together and planned the ultimate prank of the year. Pudge’s dad pretended to be “Dr. Hyde.”
In the end, Pudge understood Alaska’s death because there wouldn’t be anything to do left.
