John McCain

The presidential elections are closing in. There is only ten more months until we cast a ballot that will determine who the next president will be. The only issue is we are not done with primaries and no one candidate has their party nomination. However, John McCain is the front runner on the Republican side. He has pulled out of the shadows of Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney. The honorable Arizona Senator John McCain III is the best presidential candidate on the Republican side because of his continuous loyalty, commitment, and consistency with his political views.

John McCain started his career in the military. Both his grandfather and father were Admirals in the Navy. McCain attended the Naval Academy and graduated in 1958. He was a naval aviator during the Vietnam War who’s plane was shot down and he became a prisoner of war (POW). He was a POW for five and a half years in which he endured great torture before he was released in 1973 under the Paris Peace Accords. He retired from the Navy in 1981 and moved to Arizona where he entered into politics. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 1982 and served two terms. After he moved on the Senate in 1986 and was re-elected in 1992,1998, and 2004. Currently he is running for President of the United States under the Republican Party (About John McCain,2008). McCain sits on the Senate committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, Armed Services, and Indian Affairs. By having an array of committees it gives McCain a diverse perspective and different view points on issues (Committee Assignments,2008). This is a quality that our next president should have.

John McCain is fighting for the preservation of our health care system while making it affordable. He is proposing a $5,000 health care tax credit in order for low income families to buy health care coverage for their family (McCain, John). His plan would support the privatization of our health care system while extending it to others. McCain cares for the health of our country and the future of the health care system.

According to CNN, McCain co-sponsored President Bush immigration reform legislation. This legislation would have increased funding for border security and technology and improved existing lays.
