Abstract
Two experiments with college students were examined to determine the effectiveness of 3R (read, recite and review) strategy. The 3R was compared with note-taking strategy and re-reading. There were 72 students and all were randomly given a task. They were to read a few articles and apply the study strategy that they were assigned to. After finishing the articles, they were tested twice: one right after finishing the articles, the other, one week after. With experiment 1, 3R result were very good than note-taking and re-reading. In the 2nd experiment, there were more complex topics on engineering, however, 3R did well again.
The research is important because it shows which study method is most effective so student could implement during midterm and final exams. Before reading the article and seeing result, I expected note-taking to be more effective. however, many student get bored and distracted by their phone when reading and taking notes. And you can only do that in one sitting. However, with 3R, one can study on the bus, waiting in line for something, and walking. Its more efficient and effective.
The participants in the study were 170 college students in psychology program. Each were assignment randomly and given few articles to read without a timer. The 3 groups were given tasks to use note-taking, re-reading and 3R when reading.
