JONES BLAIR COMPANY

Jones Blair Company is a privately owned corporation that produces and market architectural paint and paint sundries under the brand name of Jones Blair. It was founded in 1928 and its headquarters is located in Texas, Dallas. In 1999 the company sales volume was about $12 million and net profit before tax was $1140000. The company distributes its product to 200 independent paint stores, lumberyard and hardware outlets. Forty percent of its outlet are located in DFW area and reaming 60% is situated in the other 39 countries in the service area. In US, Paint industry are categorized into three segments

  1. Architectural coating ( Residential and Institutional structure )
  2. OEM coating (Industrial buyers specification)
  3. Special purpose coating (special application or extreme condition)

In US the due to regulation of environmental protection agency the paint manufacture are under growing pressure to reduce emission of volatile organic compounds which limits the consumption of solvent, due to this jones company has to invest more on R&D to find a new solution as their sales volume remained same during past year although their sales had increased. The company was facing a problem of how to deploy marketing efforts among the various architectural coating paints in their service area. The vitality of Jones Blair Company was it had a strong relationship between sales representative and retail store, they used to sell to both professionals and Do it yourself users. The companies 3% sales goes to advertising, this ads was able to influence only 25% of the target. There are 600 paint companies in US as a competitor. These competitor are spending more on advertising. As do it yourself customer comprises major portion of market in southwestern America so advertising and brand image are the major concern in such market.
