1. What did you learn?
In the second week we discussed about constrains and assumption. Here are some key points from that lecture.
Constraint:
First at all, you need to understand what are the success criteria for your project.
Then you could define the “iron triangle” of project management.
Determine the scope, you must document everything. What is in and what is out.
Time: In this stage you need to determine tasks, duration and critical path. Tasks, what do you need to do; durations, when they have to get everything done and identify the critical path. The critical path helps you to identify which task must be completed on time. Otherwise the project is going to delay.
Cost: How much things will cost. Internal such as department charges for services, salaries, and external such as services or equipment require from the outside.
Quality: How many defects are we willing to accept.
Human Resources: When we will need the people. Are they available? When do you want to build the team? Check before if you need to train them.
Risk: Identify what the risks are.
Technical: Follow the technical specification of the project. Do we have the skills? Are we capable?
Environment: environmental issues, protected species or wild life.
Regulatory: What are we allow to do? Regulations, laws, and others.
Assumption:
We must let the customer know all the assumptions. Those assumptions must be documented.
Educated guesses? Evidence that the team has the experience required. Based upon experience with previous and similar projects.
We must document assumptions through all the life of the project.
2. What do you need help with?
After you start the project, it is possible to add constraints that were not contemplated?
Do you include constraints and assumptions in the scope management plan or is part of the development of the project management plan?
