What is Piety? How does a person live a pious life? If you look up Piety in the dictionary you will find a definition that says: A desire and willingness to work toward spiritual goals through one's actions to have a good relationship with God. To truly be a pious person you need to put God and others in front of yourself. God is first. Others second. I am third. To truly be a pious person, you will need to have a good character.
That is exactly that my grandfather had. He had Character. For as long as I could remember in the summer I would go over to my Grandpa and Grandma's house while my mom and dad were at work. What ever I needed he would do his best to get it for me. He was always looking out for what was best for me. He read me books, played with me, all the stuff a normal Grandpa did. But in my eyes he wasn't a Normal grandpa..... He was my Hero. Always trustworthy. Always reliable, I looked up to him for anything and everything because I always knew he would be there for me. Three days a week he would pick me up from school. He would always be in the same spot and bring me a treat. Every once and a while I would run past him to see if he noticed me running by. Most of the time he would catch me. But I remember one time he didn't. I ran to the car thinking it was a clean get-a-way. I waited there for about 2 or 3 min and watched all the other kids leave. That short time felt like an eternity. I walked back up the St. Gabe church driveway where he always stood and he wasn't there. I felt like I had been abandoned. The one person that I thought would never do anything wrong had left. I started to panic and went to the school office. When I got there I heard him yell my name and give me a hug. It turned out after I hadn't met him he went straight to the office to find me.
No matter who you were he would always treat you with respect. I never heard him speak down to others or raise his voice. He was understanding and caring. My grandpa always knew what the right thing to do, and he was never afraid to do it. He redirected his life and love for God through other people.
He was persistent. Whenever he was helping me with my homework or with a project he never let me quit. Told me to always do my best and never quit.
My grandpa died January of 2000. I was in 4th grade. It never really hit me what happened, until I went over the my grandparents house and he wasn't there. It was like at that moment, a piece of me was lost. My Hero was gone and I didn't know what to do.
One person that I believe lives pious life is Mr. Bettlach. No matter what he is doing he is always looking out for others and helping them whenever he can. Anytime you need him/something, he does his best to help. Everyday in his class
