Ken Kesey

Ken Kesey was born in 1935 and past away recently in 2001. He grew up on farms in colorado and Oregon. He spent his college years at the University of Oregon. While attending that University he pursued

theater and wrestling. All through high school Kesey had a girl friend who he ended up getting married to and they had three children together. An interesting fact about Kesey is that he wrote a book called One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest while he was on LSD.

A really popular work of Kesey's was One Flew Over The Cuckoo's nest. This book was published in 1962, and was an immediate success. This book interested many people due to the fact that it was based on his experiences with mental patients. This book has to do mainly with individuality and rebellion against conformity. Individuality and rebellion against conformity were very important topics in the United States at the time this book was written.

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest is about Ken Kesesy's experiences with mental patients. The novel shows a lot of individuality about all different mental patients.

Some important characters from the work are R.P. McMurphy, Billy Bibbit, Chief Bromden, Nurse Ratched, and Dale Harding. R.P. McMurphy was a con man who likes to challenge authority and he believes that changes at the sanitarium teach inmates to be insane. Billy Bibbit is a thirty-one year old man who still lets his mom run his life. Chief Bromden is a schizophrenic who is a really tall man who pretends to not talk and not be able to hear. Nurse Ratched is a really big lady who expects perfection from everybody. Dale Harding is a very smart man who is the president of all the patients.

I think this work is important because it lets people get a look at how people in the metal institution see things. It also allows up people now a days to get a good look
