In Britain there was a powerful king. His name is King Lear. The story begins when King Lear decides it is time to divide his kingdom, so that he is alive to see if the kingdom will run well without his leadership. He decides to split everything he has within his three daughters Cordelia, Regan, and Goneril. King Lear gives his kingdom for his most loving daughter, which also has to show their love in public. No one had a problem with it and did exactly what the King said, until Cordelia decided to refuse. King Lear got extremely angry and banished her from the kingdom without any dowry for her marriage. The King of France loved Cordelia's personality and decides to marry her even though she did not have any dowry. The King's assistant Kent reassured him that Cordelia loved him the most, but the King did not listen to him and also banished him for supporting Cordelia. The Kingdom is then divided between the left over daughters Regan and Goneril. Regan marries Cornwall and Goneril marries Albany.
Later on Gloucester comes into the story. He talks about how he has two sons. One is Edgar and another one is Edmund, who is apparently a bastard. Edmund did not like his family and decides to frame Edgar in order to gain his father's land and money. Edmund wrote a note telling how much he hates his father and signs Edgar's name on it. He framed Edgar and gave the note to Gloucester, who is then out to find Edgar. Edmund then tells Edgar to hide because he is in danger. Edgar knowing that something is wrong disguises as a Mad Tom and tries to find out what happened.
Back in the kingdom Goneril constructs a plan in order to send King Lear away. While all this is happening Kent then disguises himself and comes back to the kingdom to replace his original position. As the days go by Goneril makes her plan perfect and starts it off by criticizing the King's soldiers. King Lear got angry and decided to go to Regan's castle with his soldiers. Before he goes there he sends Caius (the disguised Kent) there. Caius goes to Regan's castle and meets Oswald who is Goneril's servant and gets in to a brawl. Regan finds out why Caius came and immediately puts him in stocks for immoral reasons. King Lear comes and finds Caius in stocks and questions Regan, she later tells King Lear that Goneril was right and that the soldiers were bad. In order to get into Regan's castle he had to get rid of half of his soldiers. King Lear astonished at what is happening then finds out that Goneril and Regan had planned this the whole time. He leave the castle and promises revenge.
