king lears quote as flies to wanton boys are we to the gods they kill us for their sport which means they do it for fun. to kill for sport means to do something for fun such as hunting and not using the meat from the animal. this quote applies to the fly because it is similar to the boss because he acts such as a wanton boy when he tortures the fly with the ink.
the fly the character of the boss was a demanding man and would exercise the little power when ever he got the chance to do so. the central conflict was person v self and that is why the boss took his anger out on the fly. he acted foolish and tormented the fly until he died. it made him feel better to take out his pain and torture someone or something out by using his powers.
the quote stated by king lear strongly relates to the short story the fly because it demonstrates what kind of person the boss was on the inside and on the outside. the quote is an analogy and it depicts that the boys kill them for their sport or also known as for fun. the boss's self pity takes over and he doesn't feel like anything or anyone else can help him because he is so lonely so he thinks that tormenting the fly will decrease his self pity and make him feel stronger and a more powerful man than he was before killing the innocent fly
