King Tutankhamen was merely a teenager when he was hoisted on the throne in Egypt. However, being that young and having to make critical decisions for a mass of people is not what is talked about the most with King Tut’s legacy. The most common topic that is attached with King Tut are the many theories and postulations on his death. Though there have been many thoughts on how he died, ranging from being murdered to dying of illness, there are two main theories that have shot to the top of discussion within recent years. These two are as follows:

  • Dying of Epilepsy
  • Dying of a horrific chariot accident

The theory of the young king dying from Epilepsy was brought to light by Hutan Ashrafian, a surgeon at Imperial College London. Ashrafian declares Epilepsy to be the culprit due to some prominent feminine features that Tut was depicted to have in some paintings and engravings. In other research being conducted to find the truth behind King Tut’s death, a few British scientists believe the answer does not lie with Epilepsy, but with a fatal chariot accident instead. The foundation of this theory rests on an examination carried out by the scientists in which they found a broken pelvis and ribs. Evidence for which they believe to be a chariot running over the body of his highness.

Of the two theories presented, the one deemed to be most plausible to me is the Epilepsy theory. I say this because of the amount of evidence presented to back the story. They even went as far as being able to identify why some of his predecessors were having religious visions due to the case of Epilepsy being handed down. Stating that if a seizure starts in the Temporal Lobe and is later exposed to sunlight, then such visions may become evident. They also used Epilepsy to describe what happened to the broken thigh bone, pointing out that it may have come from falling, after the seizure caused him to collapse.
