Mozambique is an African nation which makes it automatically prone to a weak economy and low living standards for its people. The Purchasing Power Parity per Capita in 2004 for Mozambique was $23.38 billion dollars. Their GNI per capita is currently $210 USD (World Bank). These two figures show that when putting their economy into the perspective of the USD their GNI and PPP is very small, but since their dollar is worth only a fraction of the amount of a USD $210 could actually buy some people a lot.
MozambiqueЎЇs Electricity consumption as of 2002 is 5.046 billion kWh, which compared with other nations their size is not a significant amount at all. 81 percent of citizens residing in Mozambique engage in Agriculture to support themselves and their family. Over ÐÑŠ of MozambiqueЎЇs citizens farm which is a huge factor in recognizing the development and economic state of a country, considering that most people farm either subsistent or commercially it shows that not a lot of money is being circulated throughout Mozambique.
The life expectancy of Mozambique is 37 years old for men and 40 years old for women (UN), these statistics are very low compared to other countries like the UK, Canada and the US all whose death rates double that. This shows that the quality of life in Mozambique isnЎЇt very good, or the working conditions there are very poor. The literacy rate for the country as of 2003 is 47.8 percent. Which is very low, so we can guess that not many people go to school or that the education there is very poor which also shows that the government doesnЎЇt have the money to establish good education programs.
1.3 million people have AIDS in Mozambique which is outrageously high juts like many of its African nation counterparts. The people of Mozambique are of great risk for infectious diseases, especially food and water born illnesses. The access to safe drinking water and food is highly important for the people of a nationЎЇs well being
