Lab Diary Entry
After we finished the 1st term, we started to do a stoichiometry project to find the unknown concentration of a HCl solution. Unfortunately, I am person who would rather to do tests and quizzes instead of labs. As a result, I suffered a lot in this project.
The most interesting part of this project which I loved most is the lab design. It is my favorite part because Mr.Huang gave us a very long time to do it and he could help us to correct the wrong answers. I could ask him questions as soon as I met problems. He could also explain more in class than what he had explained for lab report. We did lab design in almost 2 weeks but we did lab report for just 1 week. We could also send him the 1st draft to him to check whether there was any part missing or not. As a result, we could fix the lab design after he marked it. It was just like a kind of redoing lab.
The least favorite part of this project is the skill test. I hated it so much since Mr.Huang did not tell us his exact rubric of how he would mark our skill test. We also did not have enough time to practice using the pipette. Mr.Huang did the lab easily but when I started to do it, I just felt like everything went terrible and I also got a terrible mark! It was too difficult for me so I did not like the skill test at all.
In my opinion the lab is more difficult than taking tests and quizzes. First, when I was doing the project, I would lose my mark due to my grammar mistakes. But when I was doing a test or a quiz, most of the questions are multiple choices and calculation problems. When I was doing these kinds of questions, I just needed to make sure I chase the correct answers, did the correct calculations and got the right numbers. But when I did the project, I not only needed to make sure all my answers were correct, but also needed to make sure I did not make any grammar mistakes. As a result, I needed to do more work when I was doing the project and it was also difficult for us who were not English native speakers to avoid grammar mistakes. Second, when I did the tests and quizzes, I just needed to remember formulas and then I can solve most of the questions. But when I did the project, I could not do the project just by using formulas to calculate numbers.
