I major in Management with a concentration in Marketing. I am interested in the marketing and advertising field. Those areas of business are the most appealing to me. They both keep my attention and hold my interest. What is important to me is finding a company or organization that is safe, fun, and offer a worthwhile experience.
The Unites States Postal Service (USPS) is a job that I usually would not have been interested in. My brother recommended that I check out their organization website to see what was available. I was not aware of the many management divisions and the different jobs they offer. There are several jobs being offered in the Marketing and Sales field. I chose a position as a Marketing Specialist. There are several requirements. Obviously, they expect the candidate to have knowledge of Marketing principles and techniques. Also, they express the importance of having strong communication skills. All of the required skills, I possess through successfully passing all of my college courses.
What attracted me to USPS and this particular position is the requirements and the salary range. The salary can range from $48,520 to $81,828. The salary is based on previous salaries. My only concern is that on the website it was not indicated if a degree was necessary. This position fits and meets my career goals. It is a great job with great pay. USPS is a government organization that offers good benefits and a sense of job security. I meet all of the requirements. Through my studies at Delaware State University I have taken many courses that was necessary for me to complete all of the duties that will be assigned to me.
I also understand that to stay competitive in the job market you have to possess different types of skills. I know for me to be successful, I have to sharpen my report writing skills, take another Statistic course, and take an additional Sales course.
USPS shares many of the same values as I do. USPS values their customers. They are the 2nd largest employer in the US today. A plus with this organization is the open lines of communication on all levels of management; which allows the employee to understand their role and what is expected of them. There is a standard code of ethics throughout the organization, which makes me feel comfortable that everyone and everything will be handled ethically. They base their ethics on trust and integrity while maintaining a safe workplace.
USPS offers career development programs that allow their employees to achieve their goals and have a successful career. For example, there is an Associate Supervisor Program which was designed to select and train the best candidates for supervisor positions. The program helps develop leadership skills, operational and administrative skills. The Associate Supervisor program is one that I would be interested in being a part of. It gives you all of the valuable training needed to not only succeed within the organization, but skills you can take anywhere. Community causes is of extreme importance to me. I am active in volunteering and participating in activities that deal with communities. Therefore, it was important for me to find a company that is active in giving to the community. They are involved in the help of finding missing children, offer classroom resources, and take diversity initiatives among other activities.
