The criminal justice field with different challenges faced daily; leader such as the Chief, Sergeants, and lieutenants have their roles and responsibilities in which they must carry out with. Even though these positions faces issues, their roles, and responsibilities are different higher up their title goes. This paper will describe challenges faced by leaders today and explain steps the justice system can take to affect change for the future. OK, but the assignment was supposed to be about the challenges of leading a group, not about challenges in a general sense.
The Chief
In the police department the top position is the chief of police, and he or she must be ready to face scrutiny that comes their way. The chief will face new and old challenges and any problem that arise within the department. The responsibilities he or she has when in this position are ensuring the public and the department on safety, manage the department of police and public citizens who works for the department. Communication skills of a chief must be excellent so he or she can get their vision across to the public and the department, they cannot be biased and must be ready to lead their department. The chief must be able to handle conflicts calmly and as accurate as possible, thus could lead him or her to be accepted by the department and the community.
Crisis
Leaders within the law enforcement deal with many challenges of "Noble cause corruption", which stands for "corruption committed in the name of good ends, corruption that happens when police officers care too much about their work. It is corruption committed in order to get the bad guys off the streets...the corruption of police power, when officers do bad things because they believe that the outcomes will be good" (Police Chief Magazine, 2006). A good example of noble cause corruption an undercover officer and others will sell drugs to catch not only the dealer, but also all within the illegal operation. Police will do things such as pocketing money, use drugs themselves just to operation going. The chief must keep up with training on noble cause correction, since "training ensure knowledge and lower potential claim of abuse by police" (Police Chief Magazine, 2006). In some cases the offender's family or even the public get arrested although many police officers get off when committing crime. What does this have to do with group leadership?
Politicians at the national level to limit the amount of leeway law enforcement personnel have to investigate potential illegal activity. That makes no sense. Police officers, courts, and corrections are all affected by changes in the law. The chief of police faces challenge, such as politics because he or she must work with the mayor. Because police are required to enforce the laws. That is not a complete sentence. The justice system deals with legal and political pressures that occur within as well as outside of their system. The chief deals with the mayor he or she will be in the communities' eye, so the chief should consider listening on what is going on and not get involved with political mishaps this could help keep them in the chief position. Court system ensures that individuals maintain their rights. Prosecutors and state judge's politics play a major role which can lead to many changes, ??? Such as? and leaders of organizations needs to stay informed of laws that are changing and be aware of politics. Be specific. This is nothing but generalities. Politicize law enforcement policies and procedures and make it more difficult for criminal justice professionals to investigate or prosecute crime. Is that a recommendation??
The United States has many large cities, and small towns so the chief must set a budget. ??? That's a non sequitur. A budget will affect jobs, training, and technology so they can become more advanced in the department, and on the street. When the chief has to reduce money to stay within budget fight problems such as violent crimes, gang related crimes and immigration problems could be a problem. Poorly written. Because law enforcement relies on state and local money, and with budget cuts cutting personal personnel makes it hard for managers to train officers and respond to public safety.
"If it becomes a major problem within cities federal, state, and local law enforcement will collaborative effort to control issue. These group initiatives, called task forces, are designed to target a particular
