Learning a Foreign Language

In the last decade, foreign language has became common subject to teach in the school. However, there are still controversy about the proper time for students to learn secondary language. The majority of people argue that the appropriate years of learning different language is commenced when student at primary school rather than at secondary school. This essay will compare the pros and cons of acquiring the knowledge about foreign language at primary school.
There are a couple of benefits to begin learning different language at primary school. In the first place, children are more apt of learning. According to the research, the appropiate time for children to be completely fluent in foreign language is when they are in the chilhood. It is more likely harder for children to maintain a new language and be fluent in it after the age of seven. The second benefit is children in primary school tend to find an easy way to learn new vocabularies. Cited from the experts, as children are five- or six years old, they will use two or three thousand words each day as well as they can understand up to 24 thousand words. As a result, a child in a recent years of the primary school may able to speak like native and be able to understand the words up to 50 vocabularies. Thereby, the progress shows how swift students in studying a new language in early years.
On the other hand, learning a new language for primary school students is not always beneficial. Foreign languages are often unfamiliar, hence it is likely more difficult to learn. Therefore, it often take a psychological crutch on student and tend to be exhausting and stressful to keep up. Another reason is the fluency of foreign language is not yet a required ability for student in such early years. The studying activity in the class is mainly focused on elementary level of general knowledge and basic ability such as counting, reading, and writing. It seems unwise to give student more burden of learning new language in studying.
