A lesson that I have learned during my freshman year so far is to stop procrastinating. In the beginning of the school year, I didn’t start on homework right away since it was due at the end of the week. The longer I procrastinated, the more pressure I put on myself. When the stress was too much, I decided to get myself together and do my homework on the day that it is assigned. Doing this helped me so much more because i had more time to do homework from other classes and get some extra studying in to prepare for tests or unexpected quizzes. Procrastinating was the worst habit I have ever had and now that I try not to procrastinate, things are getting so much easier for me. Although I tell myself to not procrastinate and do my work on time, sometimes I don’t listen to myself and do things last minute. Hopefully, by the end of my freshman year, I will get over this habit and do my homework on time.
Working Independently and in Groups
Another lesson that I have learned during my freshman year is to learn how to work independently and in groups. Last year in eighth grade, I mostly worked with my classmates and friends on projects and homework because I was in this program called STEM. I was in this program with 30 other students, and we all had the same exact classes. Since I was very used to working in groups, when my teacher would assign an individual project, it was difficult to work because I had no one to socialize with. I think that I am proud of myself for learning how to work individually as well as working in groups because if i were to work individually, I wouldn’t get distracted and get my homework done quicker. This lesson is very helpful because when I grow older and get a job, being able to work by myself and with others is very important.
