Long, Long After School Expository Paragraph

There are many themes and messages in the story “Long, Long After School” by Ernest Buckle. The is that beauty is not only skin deep. From this I mean that it doesn’t matter if your beautiful on the outside it matters if your beautiful on the inside. Being beautiful can be about being kind, making people feel special and going out of your way to help others. Firstly, Miss. Tretheway is really kind to Wes because when the narrator was coasting down the hill. He hit Wes and that dropped his laundry and Miss. Tretheway came along and helped Wes take the snow off the cloths and explain to Mts. Banks about what happened. Wes said this when he was hit “I was taking Mrs. Banks wash home on my way sled, and you were coasting down the hill. The basket upset and all the things fell out on the snow. Miss. Tretheway came along and helped shake off the snow off the cloths. She went with me to Mrs. Banks door to explain to her about what happened. This quotation supports the thesis because it shows us that Miss. Tretheway knew that it wasn’t Was’s fault that the cloths fell and he wasn’t misbehaving so he shouldn’t get punished for it. Secondly, we know that she makes people feel special because when their class was doing an outdoor activity they had to make a circle and hold each other’s hands and the Banks girl wouldn’t touch Wes’s hand because his hands were dirty and Miss. Tretheway made both of them put their hands out and told the Banks girl that her hands were more dirty then Wes hands. This is what Wes said when this happened “I put my hand out to close up the ring with the biggest Banks girl, but she wouldn’t take my hand because she said that your hands are dirty and Miss. Tretheway made both of us to hold out our hands and she said your hands are much dirtier than Wes hands and maybe he doesn’t want to hold your hand. This quotation supports the thesis because it shows us that Miss. Tretheway is making Wes feel special because she sticks up for him when the Banks girl said to Wes that his hands were dirty and I won’t touch you and My as. Tretheway said that your hands are dirtier than Wes hands. Lastly, we know that Miss. Tretheway went out of her way to help Wes because at the party Wes asked a girl to a dance she rejected it and made fun of him. That's when he went to the school basement and punched through the window and cut himself and he lost a lot of blood and when Miss. Tretheway heard about this incident she immediately went to the hospital and give Wes her blood because she was the only one out three Percent of people with the same blood group. This is what Wes said at this incident “she danced with Toby instead and the girl next to her just looked at me and sat down. I guess it was a pretty foolish thing to do, but I went down in the basement and drove my fist through a window. After that Miss Tretheway heard about what happened and when she found out that her blood group matches with Wes blood group she gave Wes her blood. From this quotation we figure out that she didn’t think twice about giving her blood and this shows that she went out of her way and gave Wes her blood to save his life. In conclusion, there were many themes and main ideas in this short story like for example racism’s but I picked this one because it relates to the story and tells us that it doesn’t matter if your beautiful from the outside it matters if your beautiful from the inside from your emotions and expressions.
