In the novel Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, the main conflicts contribute to the theme �man is evil.’ The three conflicts that develop this theme is the conflict between Jack and Ralph, the conflict to survive on the island, and the conflict between Ralph and himself. The novel Lord of The Flies, tells a story about how young children would cope without civilization. At the beginning, the boys who crashed on the island were together. They worked together and assigned jobs for each other, including hunting and keeping the signal fire going so they could be rescued. As their time on the island went on, conflicts began to rise between Ralph and Jack, the boys and the island, and Ralph and himself.
The main conflict of this novel is between Jack and Ralph. This conflict first began when Ralph was elected chief over Jack. Jack was furious when only the choir voted for him. This represented the theme �man is evil’ because shortly after the election, Jacks desire for power caused civilization to diminish quickly. Ralph assigned Jack and his choir to do the hunting and keep the rescue fire going. At the beginning, Jack and the choir followed their assigned jobs but quickly stopped. Jack made his whole choir go hunting and the signal fire went you when a ship went by the island. At this point, Ralph had enough of Jack and he called a meeting. At this meeting, Jack decided to take himself and his choir to the other side of the island, where they named it Castle Rock. Ralph’s side of the island was all about civilization, organization and order. Jacks side was all about being savages with painted faces, having fun and playing games. Jack, now, felt more powerful than ever and was becoming more of a savage. At the beginning of the novel, when Jack first tried to kill a pig, he didn’t have the courage to slit its throat.
