What comes to your mind when you think savage? Death...cruel...animal...killing...no adults. In Lord of the Flies, Golding shows how savage people can get. The boys in Lord of the Flies become savage very quickly. The causes of disintegration
of society in Lord of the Flies are Ralph and Jack conflict, Fear of the beast and the pig dance.
The Ralph and Jack conflict caused the break down of society. Jack, right from the start, was very power hungry; "'I ought to be chief', said Jackwith simple arrogance,'because I'm chapter chorister and head boy I can sing a C sherp'"(19). Jack wanted to be chief
butwas happy that Ralph maid him leader of the choir and they could be hunters. Jack and Ralph had different prioritys. Jack thought hunting was a major priority and Ralph thought keeeping the fire going was very immportant. When the fire goes out for the first time Ralph and Kack have a confentation;(66)
The pig dance thing caused the breaking down of society. This caused them to become very savege. They would get into a circle and chant "Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Spill her blood."(63) The boys would get very caught up in the moment. One time they got so in to it that a boy got in to the middle and they almost hure him.
Fear of the beast caused the breaking up of the boys. The beast was really
just them fearing themselfs. They described the beast as ( ) It caused the boys to become very savage.
The boys in Lor od the flies had to be savage in order to survive. The splitting ot the group was really caused the savagnes of the group. If the air plakne had not have come they would of all turned of eachother a died.
