Love and Life
Love is the air we breathe, the way we think and the way we feel. All these ways of expressing love can be seen in the story A Rainey River by Tim O'Brien. One of the lines in which we see how love can be conveyed is in the line "Ted Lavender was dead because he loved her so much and could not stop thinking about her" (O'Brien 7). The author shows the reader that love is an emotion that makes you feel calmness in life. It is something that you cannot control its something that takes control of your whole being. It is something that has no color or creed to how it affects a person. When trying to understand the age old question "What is Love"? We get the answer to this question with simple one line sentence. An example of this is in the line "It does not instruct, nor encourage virtue, nor suggest models of proper human behavior, nor restrain men from doing the things men have always done" (O'Brien 68).
Love is something that we experience, but we all do not experience the same way. Sometimes we show our love to people by buying valuable things, and not giving thought to the price. The author also shows this being true in the statement "It was expensive, he admitted, and the logistics were complicated, but it wasn't like going to the moon" (O'Brien 94). There are times in life when we do crazy things in the name of love. Thus showing us love can take on different forms. This emotion can lead some people to a depressed state or can lead a person to feel sense of childlike excitement. An example of this is when the writer explains "He playing with his yo-yo, dancing it with short, tight little strokes of the wrist" (O'Brien 72).
