Macbeth, a novel written by William Shakespeare in the 17th century, expresses clearly the strong pull that desire for power can have over a man. At the beginning of the novel he is described as a hero and this quality is still present even in his darkest moments. Many different choices are brought forth to a certain character and decisions which affected the entire play. In the play Macbeth, justice always prevails due to guilty character’s developing sense of fear. For every action there is a reaction and whatever the result is, it is meant to happen and it will. It clearly shows that Macbeth’s guilt led to the loss of his sanity and ultimately his downfall. Shakespeare suggests this idea by giving Macbeth a strong sense of guilt and made him fear in losing his power.

At the book Macbeth, He killed the benevolent King Duncan to have assurance about the prophecy and have the power, which led him to feel guilty. After killing King Duncan, Macbeth said “What’s wrong with me?... every noise frightens me! Whose hands are these? They’re blinding me with their guilt. Can all the waters of the oceans wash away this blood?” (36). Macbeth has second thoughts about the murder and his conscience starts to kick in, his wife then puts his conscience at ease because he knew that there is no turning back. He knew that he need to deal with, because whatever he does, he can’t bring back the dead. He couldn’t stand the guilt his feeling which drives him insane every time he remembers it. Macbeth said “Everything can go mad in heaven and on earth, before we’ll give in to fear… and these terrible dream that haunt us every night. It’s ironic… we gave peace to the dead, in an attempt to gain peace for ourselves. It’d be better to be with them now, than to put up with the mental torture of our restlessness.” (56). It terrifies Macbeth and he starts to break down emotionally.

The other thing that happened, Fear started to eat Macbeth’s conscience which made him kill more people. Macbeth killed Banquo for being suspicious on how he became King, which made Banquo fear him. On the scene where Macbeth was talking to his wife, Lady Macbeth, Macbeth told her “My Dear Wife… my minds full of scorpions! You know that Banquo and his son Fleance are alive...” (57). Macbeth knew that Banquo is being suspicious on how he became a king how King Duncan died. So Macbeth hired some killers and killed Banquo because he feared that Banquo will take everything he have including his Kingship. But it doesn’t end his problem because Banquo’s son, Fleance, was alive and got away. After Macbeth found out what happened, he said “Here come my demons again. Just when I was feeling good; as steady as marble, solid as a rock, free as the air. Now, suddenly… I feel enclosed, cramped, confined and stifled again by creeping doubts and fears.” (63). The consequence of the decision to kill Banquo and his sons started when Macbeth felt more guilt and develops a worried conscience in the form of a vision of Banquo’s ghost.
