The play "Macbeth" is about uncontrolled ambition. Discuss.
In the tragic play "Macbeth" written by William Shakespeare, the play shows the struggle of one man's determination to become the leader of Scotland. Whether he does for good or for evil. The play is certainly about uncontrolled ambition and the corruption that it causes. However it is evident that the ambition that goes with characters in the play can be resisted and used for good, which eventually triumphs over evil. Macbeth's lack of thinking about the consequences for the murders that he commits eventually lead to his downfall, due to the fact that he was hated by almost everyone in Scotland. Lady Macbeth also contributes to Macbeth's ambition by persuading him to murder Duncan. It is shown that uncontrolled ambition can win over heroes, which leads to the destruction of a country and the individuals in it. However it is also evident that uncontrolled ambition can be defeated by the might of heroic characters in the play, doing their best to save their country and restore peace.
In Shakespeare's play Lady Macbeth makes the commitment to carrying out the murder suddenly. After reading her husband's letter, almost instantly she gets the idea. Her reasoning is plain: If her husband is to be the best then he must be king; if he is to be king then Duncan must die; if Duncan is to die then he must be murdered, but she fears Macbeth is not capable of the act because he is too weak minded. She must help her husband. She feels it is her duty and her responsibility to do this. In order for Lady Macbeth to help her husband achieve his ultimate ambition, she must loses her feminine side so she feels like there's nothing stopping her "Unsex me here" "fill me from top to bottom with direst cruelty".
