Macbeth
In the play “Macbeth” there seemed to be plenty of strong characters. Who is the stronger character Macbeth or Lady Macbeth? I view Macbeth to be the stronger one. Though he was blinded by ambition and greed, based on my personal beliefs, he had more strength than Lady Macbeth.
Both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth present ambition, strength, and insanity.
However their behaviors progress in very different ways. While Macbeth becomes stronger and more ambitious, Lady Macbeth does the opposite. She starts out strong, but becomes weak and reserved. In the beginning of the play Macbeth doesn’t trust the witches . When they hail him as the thane of Cawdor and it, shortly after, comes true his suspicions become overlooked. When the witches tell him he will be king he is surprised and doesn’t seriously consider killing Duncan. Lady Macbeth talks to him about murdering king Duncan, she pushed him to pursue murder. Lady Macbeth gives an excuse that Duncan looks too much like her father, and buts the dagger in Macbeths hand.
While she doesn’t see Banquo’s ghost, she is the one who ends up going mad. Macbeth did his own dirty work and I can respect that, that is one form of strength.
Although Macbeth’s murder of Duncan starts his decent into tyranny, Lady Macbeth is responsible for the push. I believe that Macbeth would have gone down the right path and wait for the prophecies to come true. She lead herself and her husband to doom. Macbeth never wanted to do anything dishonorable, Lady Macbeth lead him their she might as well have been the devil himself. Lady Macbeth took advantage of Macbeth’s love for her, because she was weak and couldn’t commit the murder herself.
At least in the end Macbeth took responsibility of his actions even though he committed more murder. Lady Macbeth lied down like a sick dog with her depression.
