History of Macedonia in the 20th Century
Today Macedonia has two main ethnic groups Macedonians and Albanians that's because part of Albania was taken by Macedonia in one of the many wars. Macedonia has been on wars forever and it has a long history. War after war after war, since ancient times they never had peace.
The present territory of Macedonia has been a crossroads for both traders and defeaters moving between the European continent and Asia. In 323 BC Alexander the Great extended the country including, Albania, present Macedonia, Bulgaria, Greece, and most of Asia minor. This lasted until 148BC when the Romans took over. After the fall of the Roman Empire in the 6th century. The country was occupied by the Byzantine Empire until the 14th century. Then the country was conquered by the Ottoman Turks which ruled for about four centuries.
The Balkan country's Bulgaria, Serbia, Albania, Montenegro, Greece, finally pushed the Turks out of the country in 1912 that was the first Balkan War. The Second Balkan was started in 1913 by the same country's fighting over Macedonia. They divided the country between Serbia, Bulgaria and Greece. The Vardarian Macedonia( present Macedonia) was taken in the newly formed Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes.
The Albanians of Macedonia and the Macedonians never liked each other but they were willing to fight together when someone tired to occupy Macedonia. But when Macedonia got occupied by Serbia, Macedonian's started fighting with the Albanians. One night in 1913 the Serbian and Macedonian army entered this Albanian village where the people of the village were asleep and not ready for war.
