Mad(Red) is a marathon event to be conducted in Madrid in Spring and in Summer with a purpose of raising funds for the charity. Around 4000 people are expected to participate in each of these events. In order to raise funds, we’ve planned to sell T-shirts. The purchase of T-shirt is mandatory in order to participate in the marathon.
Design: We’ve decided to go for 100% cotton round-neck, short sleeve T-shirt, which is ideal for running during the spring and the summer seasons. We want the T-shirt to be memorable and long-lasting, so we’ve chosen high quality (180 GSM), bio-wash material to avoid bleeding or fading of colors. To suit the name of the event [Mad(Red)], the color red has been chosen for the T-shirt, with the logo printed in White. We are using photo-printing for the T-shirt. In order to bring the cost down, we’ve settled for good quality printing rather than superior quality printing (like Direct to Garment printing)
Purchasing: In order to cut-down the cost, we manufactured the cloths in our factory in one of the textile hubs in India called Tirupur. The raw materials required are Cotton (for the fabric), Toner (for printing) and Thread. Fabric generally accounts for 70% of any garment. Since Tirupur is located in a cotton belt, the cotton fabric and thread is available at very low cost from local suppliers (refer appendix for cost). This brings down the overall cost significantly. Toner (powder ink) for printing is also to be bought from local supplier. Since printing constitutes to about 5% of overall cost (as the printing design is simple), it will not increase the overall cost much.
Marketing and Sales: We are planning to design a simple website to promote the event and to sell the tickets online. Once the ticket is bought, people could collect their T-shirts at our partner stores located at various parts of the city acting as distribution centers. Since this is a charity event, we are hopeful of finding a partner (like El Corte Ingles) free of cost. As a benefit, they would be considered the prime sponsors and their logo would be displayed in all the banners around the city, during the event day. We are also distributing pamphlets all around the city and are also advertising in the local newspaper. We also need to put up banners and direction boards between the starting and finishing point.
