My Mother, My Hero

There are many people in our society today that we can look to as a hero. Then again why look at people on television, or people who are in our government when a real hero is right in front of you. To me, my mother is my hero, and in many ways I can illustrate to you why she is my ideal hero.

In a typical dictionary a hero means remarkably brave person, somebody who commits an act of remarkable bravery or who has shown an admirable quality such as great courage or strength of character; or somebody who is admired for outstanding qualities or achievements. In other words a hero is someone who stands above the rest and their actions will inspire you to do something better with your own life. I know for a fact that my mother has had this impact on me.

In my mothers life she has had it pretty dreadful. My mother was born with a disease called Retinitis Pigmentosa; an inherited disorder of the eye involving progressive disintegration of the retina and optic nerve and leading eventually to tunnel vision or inability to see. Being born with this disability, my mother never made it seem like her disability took the best of her. She never let anyone know that is was getting worse because she wanted to be treated like a normal person. But never the less she was not treated the same. People noticed that she could not see and they made fun of her. But this women never let it get the best of her. She took all the insults and used it as her energy to get by and she did.

What is sad the most is that her own family even put her down, even when she had me. They mad her feel like she could not take care of me on her own. But look at me now I am living proof that she can do things on her own. I turned out to be her light and now I am returning the gratitude.
