The scene that strike me the most is when Frankl talks about the endurances of prisoners. Although I am not the insider, I only read Frankl’s narrative of his experiences in the concentration camp, but I am really terrified by all punishments, tortures, cruel deeds or the apathy of the guards, Capos or even between prisoners and prisoners. I also can feel the hopeless that those prisoners suffer when most of them eventually end up committing suicide or being sentenced to death.. As I read the book, I keep asking myself if I have enough courage and strength to endure the life in the concentration camp. Terrible things that those prisoners must endure are just unbelievable. I am surprise of their endurance in very difficult situations and harsh condition. They must sleep in cramped space sharing blanket. They must sleep in such conditions that they may though they can not sleep like that before but they did in the concentration camp. They also have to endure the hardest pain physically and mentally. They try to survive without receiving any news about their family. They have to hide their pains and illness to avoid being sentenced to death. They are treated as animals and have to bear the insults from guards, those who know nothing about their background and who they really are. When seeing their both physical and mental are tortured, I admire their fortitude. What I find the most meaning about this scnee is that as Frankl mentions, the situation confirmed Friedrich Nietzsche’s words, “He who has a why to live for can bear with almost any how.” At this point, I can understand how those prisoners can maintain their unbelievable endurance. I also can see that it is important a person acknowledge a why to live, so even under harsh circumstances, they can also survive.
