There are certain limitations as well to the use of wireless Mobile Applications. Without high speed internet facilities this service cannot be used. Database management system needs to be very strong in order to support this system. The problems that need the presence of person to solve may not be solved through this. As mentioned in the case it’s hard to use small keypads of PC mobile phones and type.
To overcome the limitation of necessity to type manually in small keypads, they searched out the option of hand writing recognition software and voice command recognition facilities in the pocket PC.
2) What are the software development challenges of wireless mobile devices? How are Med Star Health and Unifi meeting those challenges?
It’s a very complicated job to develop software’s for wireless mobile devices and incorporate them in our work. Converting a whole desktop package into. a small sized pocket phone is not so easy. Moreover giving access to every bit of information regarding inventory and customer information as well as videoconferencing through PDAs, to every employee working, through a cellular phone is not a joke.
Along with those cellular phones comes in different models and functions so it’s a tough job to develop software that is recognized by all models. There should be variation in the software and should think about every bit of changes that may not support the application in a cellular phone. Med star’s IT department was facing the similar challenge of accommodating a single application to multiple users, using different cellular devices. When there are lots of options available and every device functions almost the same it’s not easy to push everybody to use a standard device. This freedom of choice makes it difficult for the IT staff to keep up with new model and ensure that they are compatible with the company’s application.
