I would continue with production, while I ensure the following processes.

1) There is no conclusive proof. Allow the chief medical officer to investigate the claims of the student. "Social and ethical responsibility to find out and to notify our employees", but only when we have verified results.

2) Without alarming my employees, I will get my Chief Medical office to run tests on the Employees to test for the exposure to the suspected chemical and report his finding to me. 6mnth of production should be a key time exposure indicator.

3) Put a project team together to look at the required safety guards, stressing the impact to productivity from a down time perspective. Suggestion - investigate moving the production of the major products to one plant only, while installing the necessary safety protection systems at the other plant. Do the reverse in 2 months time.

4) Make the search for new products and alternatives to the suspected chemical a priority in the Research department.

5) Make it very clear that this is top secret and any leaks to competitors would cause huge loss in market share.

6) Motivate, but stress the importance of finding alternative products or replacements to the suspected chemical.

1) If the Results form the medical officer negative and there is some evidence to the chemical causing skin related illnesses, I would pull the chemical from production and start to install the safety equipment
