Functions of Management

Introduction

According to Bates and Snell (2004), management is the process of working with people and resources to accomplish organizational goals. Good managers do things both effectively and efficiently. To be effective is to achieve ogranizational goals. to be efficient is to achieve goals with minimal waste of resources, this is, to make the best possible use of money, time, material, and people. Wikipedia (2006) defines management as, "the directing, characterizes the process of leading and directing all or part of an organizations, often a business, through the deploymnet and manipulation of resources (human, financial, material, intellectual or intangible" Wikipedia (2006) continues by quoting early twenth-century management writer, Mary Parker Follett, defining management as "the art of getting things done through people." Wikipedia also states that this applies even in situtations where planning does not rake place and from this perspective, there are four management functions: Planning, Organizing, Leading, and Controlling. This paper will discuss management four primary functions -- planning, organzing, leading, and controlling and how each function relates to my postition as Administrator/Accountant for the organization Go Hardd!! Incorported.

Definition

Planning is specifying the goals to achieve and deciding in advance the appropriate actions needed to achieve those goals. Planning activities include

analyzing current situations, anicipating the futures, business the coompany will engage, choosing cirporate and business strategies, and determining the resources needed to achieve the organization's goals.

Organizing is assembling the human, financial, physical, informational, and other resources need to achieve goals.

Leading is stimulating people to be high performers. It is directing, motivating, and communicating with employees individually, and in groups. Leading involves close day-to-day contact with people, helping to guide and inspire them towards achieving team and organizational goals. Leading takes place in teams, departments, and divisions, as well as at the tops of lare organizations.

Planning

As with all companies, the bottom line is to be profitable and competitive year after year. In doing so, the key to a successful company is providing quality customer service. Growth of the company and company endurance relies more on the value of their customers. Go Hardd!! Incorporated strives by the quality of services its customers receive

such as: tax preparation, bookkeeping, financial planning, and paralegal services to small business , private investors, and individual customers' needs. Maintaining the goals that quality of these services provided enrich more valve for the customers and "achieving these goals with minimal waste of resources that is to make the best of possible use of time, money, material, and people" (Bates and Snell, 2004). Go Hardd requires specifying goals to be achieved and deciding in advance the appropriate actions needed to achieve those goals are mult-tasks on a daily bases. Identifying opportunities such as people are in important to create, seize, strengthen, and sustain competitive advantage through feedback from its customers ensuring their needs have been met.

Organizing

Go Hardd regularly reviews its pupose, its overall goals and who should be doing what to meet the goals. the Chief Executive (CEO)/Owner's role
