Marijuana and the Effects It Has On Medical Conditions

Marijuana, a prescription for the future! Weed, bud, ganja, pot, green, or Maryjane are just some different names that people refer to as marijuana. Cannabis has been around for thousands of years. It is a plant or herb that is grown either in the ground or in a grow house or wherever you feel like growing it. The main two species of marijuana is cannabis sativa and cannabis indica, but can come in all different kinds of sizes and strains. Sativa plants typically are tall and the leaves are not as close together and are typically grown outdoors as oppose to the indica plant which is more short and bushy like and is mainly grown indoors (LeafScience). The color or the plant can change depending on if you mix different strands together or not. When you mix different strands it becomes a hybrid and they can have many unique effects to your body.

When it comes to smoking weed, people do it for different reasons such as for medicinal purposes or recreational purposes. There are a number or medical problems that can be effected positively from smoking cannabis. Some of the medical conditions it effects are cancer, epilepsy, Parkinson’s, MS, PTSD, Alzheimer’s, metabolic disorder, depression, anxiety, glaucoma, chronic or severe pain, and AIDS/HIV. The ways it effects these medical conditions is astonishing to say the least.

The use of Cannabis for medicinal purposes dates back at least 3,000 years. It came into use in Western medicine in the 19th century and was said to relieve pain, inflammation, spasms, and convulsions. In 1937, the U.S. Treasury began taxing Cannabis under the Marijuana Tax Act at a dollar per ounce for medicinal use and $100 per ounce for recreational use (cancer.gov). Depending on the specific strain you have the amount can change, if you have a really good plant the price will increase by almost hundreds of dollars. For an ounce of weed
