The topic legalization of marijuana has been a hot topic for many years. There are both negative and positive reasons weather or not to legalize the drug or keep it the way it currently is. I believe that the legalization of marijuana would be a great benefit for our country and the world due to the fact that there are many positive impacts of marijuana that have been proven to benefit our country such as the use of medicinal uses, government taxation, and hemp plant uses. There are many other legal drugs that you can purchase that are more harmful then marijuana and they can cost a lot less and don't cure what it is intended to.
In the buds of the marijuana plant is where the hemp fibers or cannabis can be found. Hemp is a very useful product and can be used in many different ways depending on its manufacturing, it could be used to make rope, paper, and even cloth. Courtney Schroeder, author of "Marijuana Holds the Key to Relief," points out that the hemp plant can be very useful since it can produce a great amount of textures that help out the economy (50).Over the years, hemp was not such a reliable source of a product as it slowly fell out of demand in the due to the time consuming process that it took to get to the buds while harvesting the hemp plant. There was not a machine yet created to go through the marijuana plant buds and separate each and every bud. Many years later there was an invention of a machine that was able to separate the buds of the plant and this machine was capable of handling all the jobs that any person could do. This process the hemp manufacturing became a big part in the farming industry and was now a product that was on the rise with the other buyers. Hemp also has oil, which contains very healthy nutrients, can be part of a healthy diet and is also used as a type of lubricant and a fuel source.
The legalization of marijuana should be allowed, but only as a prescription drug. Medical research has shown that marijuana has a beneficial value to patients that have various types of diseases such as cancer, neurological disorders, and AIDS patients. It is said that marijuana eases most of the effects of chemotherapy such as nausea, pressure to the eyes, and dizziness (Schroeder, 51). Marijuana also controls muscle spasms and contractions and can help in the process of the relaxation of patients who are diagnosed with neurological disorders. Marijuana helps relieve pain to many different injuries or diseases and is also said to be an addictive drug. Meghan McCrossen, author of The Legalization of Drugs, states that patients on marijuana are more likely to become dependent on the drug and suffer from anxiety attacks (18). I would have to believe that if the drug is prescribed and used properly that there is only hope for the cure of the disease and no let downs of the drug that can do so much.
