CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Mathematics started way beyond from the days of old and new stone age. They used symbols for number in measuring in agricultural and construction of their equipment and hunting thing. They also used it for astronomy.

Some contributions are can be seen in clay tablets discovered by scientists like the Pythagorean Theorem which is very essential today.  Others are in scribes like The Nine Chapters on the Mathematical Arts, a collection of word problems, theorems and postulates.

Another discovery for counting numbers like Hindu Arabic of Indian Mathematics and Roman Numerals which are being taught in elementary level. Some are discovery of arithmetic sequences and other mathematical expressions.

Mathematics is also used in other field like physical science, chemistry, and economics, medical and technological aspects and other field of science. They use Mathematics to interpret codes, solving formulas, balancing equations, measuring right amount of substance and for communication.

In modern days, discoveries of new definitions concerning Mathematics are developed and developments of new technologies give more impacts of developing concepts in Mathematics. Until now, the evolution of the field of Mathematics continues and the discovered concepts of the past are being treasured and taught to young mathematicians of today.
