MBA Program: My Personal Perspective

The decision to return to school and pursue my MBA degree came after I after took plenty of time to think long and hard about my future. At one particular point in my life, I actually did not know what I wanted to do for a living. I was only concerned about making money and being able to live a comfortable life. To be honest, I did not truly have a desire to return to college after so many years of being out of school. However, I was not content with working dead-end jobs and having no place to move up.

When I became a mother, my life changed. I realized that I had to put my son first. I tried to work regular jobs, but I was spending too much time away from my son. I also wanted to instill in my son the importance of an education, and I preferred to teach him by being an example. I knew that I had to work and take care of my family so I had no choice but to take online courses. Armed with my love for accounting, education, and my son, I began my online education with the University of Phoenix in December of 2004 and graduated in June of 2006. My desire to teach on the college level forced me to set my goals on obtaining my MBA degree. I debated between getting a master's degree in accounting and getting one in business administration. After careful consideration, I decided on an MBA because it would offer me a broader selection of career opportunities. With an MBA, I could teach either business or accounting classes, both of which are interests of mine.

After completing my MBA program, I predict an immediate increase in career opportunities for me. I have had a difficult time securing a job, even an entry-level position. Because education is placed high on the list of criteria that

attracts prospective employers, an MBA should rank me in the top percentile of eligible employees. I have researched
