"Oh, may I see Jason and his bride ground into pieces in their shattered palace....."(20) All this anger just because Jason the husband decides to take on a new wife. Does she have a right to be mad? Yes, but did she have a right to do the things that she did? No, Medea is fighting a war between the world and herself, to attempt to make her actions and feelings justifiable to those around her and even herself.
For any woman who gives her all to a man and leaves her family because she is solely devoted to him, then is left with out warning, should have ever right to be mad. No doubt, but the extent that Medea takes it is what is uncalled for. Yes, Her feelings are well motivated by Jason's actions but the way Medea deals with it only hurts her in the end, and has her come out defeated, and in many instances back in the same place she was before her irrational outbreak.
Medea; a powerful, outspoken, courageous woman with a huge temper, that would frighten anyone standing in her wrath, was extremely devoted to her husband, Jason until he did the unthinkable, leaving Medea for another woman. Medea left her family, well killed them off, and bared him two sons, helped him become a "hero", she made some serious sacrifices for him. In return he left her for the princess of Corinth. She was left with a broken heart and a banishment, which sent her to a place she did not know. This made Medea furious, so mad that it did not take a rocket scientist to know what Medea's next intentions were to be. Because of the reputation Medea has with people, naturally they expect for her to go off and lose it. Also because of her character, Medea can not let Jason and his new bride get away and allow everyone to laugh about her with out her having something to laugh at also.
The news that Medea has just found out has her in frenzy, she can not eat nor can she sleep. The nurse and the tutor say she is not herself. What really sets Medea off is the banishment that Creon orders her to. "I order you out of Corinth....." (p 25) Medea is so furious that she is being treated this way that she pulls a plan out of her sleeve. Creon is fully aware of Medea's capability that he is urgent for her to leave. " .... Why wrap up the truth? I fear that you may do my daughter some irreparable harm." At this point Medea is really ticked off and is determined to do something about it, she will have the last laugh and Jason will suffer just like her and her sons are soon to endower through the banishment.
