- Media preparation
The EFB was collected at a nearby oil palm company, Felda Lepar Hilir 2, Kuantan, Pahang. After
the collection of sample, the EFB was washed with deionized water to remove dirt and debris
That attached it and was cut into smaller pieces. For 3 consecutive days, the EFB was oven-
dried at 80°C . By using a fibre grinder, the dried EFB were grounded to approximately 0.5mm ~
10mm. The particle size was determine by using a sieve tray.
- EFB Pretreatment – Acid Hydrolysis
EFB (10 g ) was added into different concentration of sulphuric acid ( H2SO4) 1%, 2%, 4%, 6%
and autoclaved at 130°C, pressure 10 psi for 1 hour. After reaching the required reaction time,
the reaction mixture was centrifuged for 10 minutes, 12 000 rpm and 10°C. Then, the solid was
separated from the liquid phase by filtration.
