American Health Check

Advertisement

Being that I am an Advertising major I chose to incorporate poetry and advertising together. I did some research on the internet looking for some ideas to spark my creative process. This is when I came across that MetLife was sponsoring this health check to raise awareness about the importance of early detection cancer tests. I thought this was a great concept on there part and decided I wanted to make it my focal point for this project. I started to think of ways in which I could tie the works we have read to this concept. I instantly though of the poem "Old Man" by Robert Pinsky. I then looked for images on both Google and Getty Images and came across quite a few that I felt suited the piece however I feel this man embraced the feeling of the ad.

The very first time I read this poem I was instantly intrigued by the poet. I'm not sure why it touched me but it did. I imagined a old man sitting by himself pondering over his life. Analyzing all his accomplishments and all his disappointments. I believe the poem can be read to both inspire and also sadden the reader. I feel this is how I successfully tied in the idea of my vision within the ad. The poem leads me to believe that the old man regrets the things he put off doing and before he knew it, it was to late. People tend to put things off saying that "I will take care of that tomorrow" and sometimes it makes matters worse.

My overall purpose with the advertisement isn't to frighten or scare the public, but to inform them on the importance of early detection and raise the level of awareness of this serious issue. I know for myself when I read poetry a way for me to understand it, is to try to relate to some aspect of my life. By combining these two concepts
