Minorities Behaviors and How It Is Not Justified
Today, there are many immigrants who come to America to find jobs which allow them to better themselves. These immigrants along with African Americans are considered to be minorities. They are portrayed in society as innocent and justified in their behavior but in actuality this is not the case. These minorities get mistreated and hardly anyone sees it. The movie American History X provides examples of the treatment of minorities.
One of the main character is Derrick who is Caucasian, he works in jails laundry room with black inmate. Working together they started to open up with to each other. One day they were talking and the black guy asked him what he did to be in prison. Derrick responded back with the same question. The black man answered. He told Derrick that he was coming out of a store with a TV in his hands, and some cops told him to drop it and put his hands on his head. So he did and the TV dropped on one of the officers feet. The officer lied and said that he had thrown the TV when in actuality it had fallen. He was then charged with assault of an officer and sentenced to six years in prison. Derrick now on the other hand had killed two black men and received less time than the black guy. This is a clear example of discrimination. The minority’s behavior in this situation was not justified and he was not considered innocent. This guys actions in the movie proved how he felt about how society works and deals with minorities. He was used to being treated with less respect because of his appearance and the way in which he lives his life. Many of the minorities today are allowed many opportunities to better themselves but the opportunity is so scarce that when it is given, these minorities take advantage of it. Americans then begin to think that these individuals are getting everything and are a strain on society and the economy. This is not the case because
