Field Experience

I. I have been observing at Lyons Township High School South Campus in Western Springs, IL on Tuesdays and Thursdays from September 18th-December 4th. The school is filled with only freshmen and sophomore students. I class room I have been going to is a full time Special Education class room and it is functional as well. There are seven students that are disabled and nine aides for each student. The seven students are Pamela (Retts Syndrome), Steven (Asperger Syndrome), Adam (seizures), Bobby (seizures), Isabella ( ), Kirby ( ), Ellen (Autism). The nine aides includes Kathy, Carol, Bob, Cindy, Susan, Toni (Nurse), Danielle (teacher), Wendy, and Mr. Deztner (main teacher). All the students are in the room at the same time. Every aide is assigned to a student every week and they are being switched off. Every morning Toni (Nurse) will approach each child and check them to make sure everything is fine with them. The room is set up with different stations that are labeled for the students in sign language.

II. My role in the class room is helping the students and grading their papers. I give them spelling tests and also read books to them.
