Levinas is a Jewish philosopher that spent the majority of his years as a philosopher explains exactly what ethics was. Out of the other two philosophers; Kant and Aristotle I would feel more comfortable asking Levinas for advice. The reason behind this is the fact that he is one of the most recent philosophers out of the other two in terms of life span and today’s date. Therefore Levinas would be more familiar with issues today and trends that are occurring in today’s society. The question I would chose to ask Levinas is, what advice would you give me in terms of choosing a boyfriend? I believe there would be three categories he would base his answer on. They are appearance, compatibility, and culture.
In today’s world we are faced with the media’s definition of beauty based on celebrities and models. Although there is no “real” set definition of beauty but there is ways in which people are able to determine whether or not one is attractive according to their appearance. For example, studies show that people such as celebrities and models are considered attractive based on the symmetry of their face. Of course no one is exactly symmetrical but the closer you are based on specific units used to measure it the more attractive you are. But I believe Levinas would have a totally different approach to this. Levinas believe that the face was an ethical part of life. Now what I would ask after he states this what about if the person is an identical twin. Afterwards I believe he would reply “you have to look beyond the persons face and look into there eyes for whom they really are because that causes them to be no one but themselves.” With this said, I believe Levinas advice towards picking a boyfriend based on their appearance is more beneficial then that of the world’s measurement to symmetry of beauty.
Compatibility is an important thing to have when deciding whom to be with especially if you want the relationship to last. Compatibility is exactly what creates the spark between two individuals to connect through likes and dislikes. Levinas teachings explain that there is a trace of God everywhere and in everyone. Levinas also explains that God is good and visa versa. With that said, as human beings we would prefer an individual as our mate to be someone that practices good acts. For example I would like a boyfriend that does nice stuff for me and would stand up for me for whatever reason comes about. I believe when Levinas was to answer my question based
