Gandhi was a british educated lawyer who became the leader of Indian Independence movement. Gandhi had his own way of thinking. his religious beliefs ordered him to use nonviolence to take over the british. Historical circumstances that led ghandi to decide that India must use noncooperation to end british rule of india was a law such as the Rowlatt act leading to an event of the Armritstar massacre. Gandhi's smart decisions such as the salt march had led the british to embarrassment and one step closer to indias independence. Once india gained its independence problems were faced like things of boarder crossing and violence between Hindus and Muslims. . Gandhi is a role model for many people today and is one of the most famous of all nonviolent activists.

Not only did Gandhi chose to use noncooperation to end british rule because of his religious beliefs but also because that was the only way they would be able to take them down. The British is such a strong empire that attacking with weapons with violence and weapons they would be bound to lose. In 1919 the british passed the rowlett acts which allowed people to be arrested without a trial. This went against heabus corpus. The Indians did not like this idea since there was a law that was fair that gave someone the chance to be put on trial and being able to speak to a judge and then the british just disregarded that law and made a new one. It was against the law to speak out upon the government but the indians wanted to discuss this with the people and have a meeting to decide what to do. The indians did in fact decide to meet up and talk about this in the city of amritsar. They decided to call it a day of fasting and prayer. Hundreds, even thousands attended. This is then what led to the bloody event of the Amritsar massacre. The british went in, open fire and shot everywhere, resulting into a huge blood bath. Without a care in the world the british shot anyone whether it was a woman a child or a man. 400 indians died and 1200 were wounded. this resulted in anger all across india and demanded independence which led to Gandhi using noncooperation to get that.

One action of Gandhi in relation to noncooperation was the Salt march. After gandhi heard about the news of the amritsar massacre he knew he had to start doing something about it. But had to keep nonviolence in mind because that was the way he did things. Giving speeches to the people of india saying things such as creating boycotts and announcing his demand of the salt march. The salt march was an act of civil disobedience led by Gandhi to protest british rule in India. Thousands of Indians followed Gandhi from his religious retreat all the way to the Arabian Sea coast, a distance of 240 miles. Every time he passed a town more people joined in. This march was to break down the economy of the british because the indians would non longer be buying the salt from and they would be creating their own. Because of this march there was a mass of arrests. Cracked skulls and bones from the british beat down.
