I drive a 1987 Ford Pickup with a 6.9 Lt engine. For my senior project I am going to upgrade my engine to a 7.3 Lt. diesel engine with a turbo. By doing this project I will learn more about my truck and diesel engines in general.
By doing this project I will learn more about diesel engines than I already know. In everyday life I run diesel motors and by pulling one out and putting one in, it will teach me how to rebuild a motor, pull a motor out, and put a new motor back in. Also, I might be doing a transmission change, from a automatic transmission to a manual transmission.
This project will be a new learning experience to me.
I plan to take my truck to a shop and pull out my motor. By going through this process I will learn how to unbolt the motor mounts, the transmission mounts, and the motors electrical power. After I take out the motor I will have to make sure the other motor fits. Then I will have to go through and bolt and wire the new one in. If I do a transmission change I will have to cut a hole in the floor board of my truck to mount a manual transmission in, in place of the automatic transmission. This is a long process because you have to make sure the new motor is in working order. Such as, putting in new parts and completing service's.
I chose to do this project because I am interested in diesel motors and my truck needed a new one anyways. By the experience I gain from this project I will learn more about my vehicle and also gain future work experience. I am looking forward to doing this project because it will keep me out of buying a new vehicle.
