Movie Review
Different movies have many different aspects of teaching techniques, some good and some bad, and teachers and future teacher can learn from the actions and roles played in films. However, some actions should remain in the film and never be repeated by teachers. In the film, "Dangerous Minds", Michelle Pheiffer plays a teacher that displays many positive characteristics of a teacher, but also displays some negative characteristics. Mrs. Pfeiffer teaches an English class full of troubled students in a tough school. She reaches out to the troubled students through a caring attitude and an understanding personality. Michelle also puts teaching into a different perspective and uses a new approach to her lesson plan. For instance, in one scene, Michelle gets her students involved and interested in her lesson and what she has to say by using something that the students were interested in and knew something about. The thing she used to draw their attention was karate. It may have taken her a while to get her class engaged in learning, but once she did, she connected with her students in a very strong way.
One of the negative characteristics of her teaching techniques is her taking one of her male students out to dinner. In today's world, if a teacher took a student of the opposite sex out to dinner, they would be fired, face criminal charges, and possibly a lawsuit. Having relations of this matter with a student is not a good teaching technique. The next bad teaching characteristic that Michelle used a lot is singling out a student. A teacher should never do that, especially if the student is the opposite sex. Another bad characteristic that I noticed was when Michelle took all of her students out to the amusement park.
