The negative effects of abortion
In 1985, maternal mortality was about 4.7 deaths per 100000 live births. Abortion was one of the main factors of maternal mortality. Abortion was introduced very long time ago and since then it has become an easy alternative for unwanted pregnancies. An abortion is done normally during the early weeks of the pregnancy when the unborn child is developing and forming and there are many ways of performing an abortion. Taking away a child's life has not only many psychological effect but abortion also effects the mother greatly. There are three main negative aspects that affect women who abort their innocent unborn child. The three main effects are the immediate biological effect, the eventual biological effect and the psychological effect.
First of all, performing an abortion, like any other surgery, involves many tools and operation equipments. These tools used sometimes may not be clean. One of the main effects of abortion is the immediate biological effect. Infection is one of the immediate effect that happens normally immediately after the abortion. The infection normally occurs in the uterus or the fallopian tube. Furthermore infections can be very dangerous as it can spread to other parts of the body. One of the usual infections which involve the fallopian tube that occurs is the Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID). This disease affects the fallopian tube in a very dangerous way and normally it is hard to overcome the disease. A woman who has PID has a very high risk of dying. The PID is usually very difficult to manage and this often leads to infertility. Another event that would happen in the immediate time period is hemorrhage, which is instant bleeding. After an abortion is performed, the mother normally looses a lot of blood. When they loose a lot of blood,

they need blood transfusions to keep them alive. A study has shown that 9.5% of them needed blood transfusion. A blood transfusion is the one that normally causes deaths of mothers in abortion. Normally these deaths happen when abortion is done in illegal or small clinics. When an emergency happens and a mother needs blood transfusion, the clinics does not have the resources to do so. They need to send the patient to the hospital and when they fail to do so in time, the patient dies. Besides that, blood clots also affect the mother's health. When an abortion is done, the placenta is sliced off the wall of the uterus and sometimes this causes blood clots to be forced into the mother's blood circulation. These blood clots can travel into her lungs causing damage and occasional deaths. Damage is caused when the mother's blood meets with the blood of the baby.
Other than that, there is also the eventual biological effect. This effect happens a lot later after their abortion. This long term effect usually happens unconsciously when the mother least expects. One of the main causes of this long term biological effect is cervical damage. Cervical damage can be very severe or maybe in some cases just a mild damage. To perform an abortion, the doctor needs to open up the cervix so that the doctor can reach into the uterus and take the child out. Cervical damage normally happens when the doctor forces tools and operation equipments into the cervix to open up the cervix. The normally closed cervix will be forced open and this will result in cervical muscle damage. The muscle of the cervix will be torn and this will lead to the permanent weakening of the cervix muscle. The weak muscle will take a very long time to heal or in some cases it never heals and remains weak for the rest of the mother's life. With a weak cervix, the mother will usually have miscarriages when she bears another child in the future. This is because when a woman is expecting a child, the child's whole weight plus the placenta is supported by the cervix muscle. If the cervix muscle is weak, it may not be strong

enough to hold the baby for a long time. Besides that, cervical damage also leads to handicaps among new born babies and premature births. This is because after an abortion, not only the cervix is damaged; the uterus might be damaged too. In later pregnancies, the baby might not be formed well enough to be delivered normally. Cervical damage often leads to many other pregnancy difficulties and the women with cervical damage are at greater risk of losing
their lives during the delivery of the baby. Cervical damage which happens after an abortion causes many complications which are hard to overcome.
Another major effect of abortion is the psychological effect which the mother has to go through after an abortion. Not many mothers have negative effects after abortion, but mostly everyone who has gone through an abortion has some negative effect. Within the
