Murder in Foggy Bottom Book Analysis

In the book Murder in Foggy Bottom, on one ordinary day three commercial planes crash seconds after they lift off. No one knows who is to blame, but will try to solve the mystery. The book starts with focusing on two individuals working around the United State's central command center, Washington D.C., Joe Potamos and Max Pauling and what they do preparing up to the largest terrorist attack the U.S. has seen up to that time. Joe Potamos is a newspaper editor for the Washington Post and Max Pauling is a member of the Trade and Commerce Division of the U.S. Embassy in Russia. When the government wants to find out who is responsible for this crime, they decide to track down the major hate groups living in America. Max Pauling is sent back to Russia after a much needed vacation and Potamos researches a murder of a Canadian found in a park in Washington D.C.. Max is informed by the State that Russia-made Surface-to-Air Missiles shot down the three planes. Max goes to work to uncover the missile dealer in Russia. The CIA investigates Zachary Jasper's Christian hate group and sends one of their own undercover to Jasper's ranch. The CIA agent claims that Jasper has missiles at his ranch; the CIA then launches a mission to make Jasper surrender his weapons. Over in Russia, Max Pauling finds out who sold the missiles and that the seller did not sell the missiles to Jasper. The CIA is about to attack Jasper until Joe Potamos finds out that the missiles were sold to Canadians, but one missile sold is missing. The missile is then tracked down in Pittsburgh before it kills more people.

Joe Potamos is a man who always wants to get to the bottom of things. As a news editor, he always wants to know the whole story for interest of his editorials by his readers and for his personal satisfaction. When Potamos has a story, he wants to take full recognition for his own work. Potamos shows this when confronting George Alfred Bowen after Potamos wrote a, to be, stunning editorial to set him on the map. Bowen, at this time, is a leading political columnist. When Potamos is assigned to report on the State Department, he has a story that would replace Bowen's commentaries. When Bowen hears this, he tries to steal Potamos's story. Potamos comes to the senior editor with the report, but Bowen comes after with the same report. Hearing this, Potamos punches Bowen in the nose and Potamos's career is scared for as long as he writes editorials.

Max Pauling is a easygoing and well-manned person who just happens to work for the American Embassy in Russia. He likes to spend his time flying in his little Cessna enjoying the sights around him. He loves his job so much that he worked in Russia for many years. This did not settle well with his family. This is why he was divorced by his wife. Max also likes to get down to business. When he was looking for the missile dealer, he did not want to have any other confrontation
