Essay Preview: My Experience of Taking Government Through Options for Youth
At first, I was extremely nervous about summer school because I didn't know what to expect or if I was going to pass my Unit 1 exam. On the very first day of summer school I walked through the big, shiny doors of the Options for Youth center and met with my teacher. He gave me 15 minutes to study before I had to turn in turned in my workbook, take my test, and have have my discussion. Those were about the shortest fifteen minutes of my life, but I reassured myself that I would do fine. I told myself that what I didn’t know, I couldn’t learn in a short span of time. It was now or never. Turns out, I got full credit on the discussion portion and passed my test, though barely, with a 73%. I left the building within an hour of arriving with a sense of relief/accomplishment for completing my first unit and passing the first test.
I returned the same week on Thursday and felt less nervous about taking my unit 2 exam, but I think I went in overconfident because I failed my second test. Upon learning that I failed, I felt disappointed and upset because I had stayed up late the night before studying rigorously. I was told to return the next morning to get a second chance at the test and I was going to make sure that the second time would be my last time. I went home and memorized all of my vocabulary words and repeatedly went over the review sections of my workbook and when I returned the next morning I completed the test in about 20 minutes and passed with a 75%. I felt extremely relieved and proud that my studying had paid off, because not only did I pass, but I got 6 more right than from the first time I took it. Yesterday I took my unit 3 test and passed it with a score of 34 out of 40. I feel way more confident than I did before because I now know what to study and I’m starting to have a better understanding about this course.
