Since the 1920's, supporters of marijuana prohibition exaggerated the drugs dangers. Many of the "reefer madness' tales that were used to generate support for early anti-marijuana laws continued to appear in government and media reports today. Marijuana was made illegal in 1837 which was only 178 years ago.
During the 1970's it seemed as if scientific inquires was beginning to influence government policies on marijuana. After reviewing evidence by scholars and official commissions, criminal penalties for marijuana offends were lessoned and a number of states moved in the direction of decriminalization. Meaning if you had involvement in with the drug you will only be fined rather hand cuffed and possibly sent to jail. To confront lingering concerns about the toxicity of marijuana, the government expanded its funds of scientific research to newly created Natural Institute on Drugs Abuse NIDA.
The data from the studies of NIDA was collected from clinical examinations and laboratory experiments it covered all the concerns today's society has about marijuana use such as effects on the brain, lungs, immune system, reproductive system, the impact on personality, developments of human body, motivational states and its potential.
The collusion was that marijuana is a relatively safe drug and totally free from potential harm, but unlikely to create serious harm for most individuals uses constantly. There have been multiple studies that reaffirm the findings of NIDA.
Our Society contains many legal substances that cause more damage than marijuana such as alcohol or tobacco. 2 million successively defend on attacks on the use of marijuana and fully support it decimation. Based on the standards that are society uses, marijuana should be available and legal to every American.
