In “My sister,Kari” by Nicolle Mircos, the author talks about a life changing experience she went through with her sister who suffered from mental retardation. The author argues that although some people who are less fortunate or talented in one aspect can be gifted and thrive in another aspect and regardless should all be treated the same because underneath god made everybody the same.
The author did a very good job showing how selfish and mean a “normal” person can be to one who is less fortunate. I agree with how the author it shows that everybody has their own talents and just because they lack in certain spots does not mean that they cant strive in others regardless of a disability. It teaches people to be more understanding and not to knock people down for being bad at something. Some may agree with the author on being embarrassed and not being able to understand why god would give their sister a disability. I agree, being young and not knowing much about disabilities i believe it could definitely be hard to cope with or understand what it is why in some people's eyes she's not “normal’.The story almost relates to the saying dont judge a book by its cover because throughout the story she talks about how her sister is enable to do many things, but then once she heard her sister Kari play the piano she was amazed because how good she was. Although kari didnt know note values and names she could play the piano better then her sister. With that they worked together to create a bond.Which goes to show that the thrives in other aspects of life.
