Emotions of devastation and dread ran high, families were being torn apart, and our country was in shock. The tragedy of September 11th put on view how the majority of the time it takes catastrophe to unite our country. It should never take that kind of terror to keep us on watch of what is going on in our political surroundings. As Kennedy states, ÐŽoWar is too important to be left either to the generals or the politicians. It must be the people's business.ÐŽ± According to his article, Kennedy pronounces that troops who fight our wars represent our country, but they mainly do it for the wages and benefits. The connection that should link between citizenry and service to the military is growing thin.
Steve Backus affirms that as most Americans, we do not fully realize what war actually is. War is a bloody subject. It is not merely a piece of information that comes to our knowledge. He goes on to say, ÐŽoWar is a last resort, a final absolute option in the face of impending attack. War is defensive, a taking up of arms only when all uncertainty has been eliminated, as when the enemy is within firing range. If you go to warÐŽ¦ you go to war with everything you have. When you go to war, because it is a last resort, while it is absolute tragedy to lose lives, those lives are exalted. There's no questioning the war and there's no questioning the deaths of the people fighting it. When you go to war properly, it is absurd to change your position on whether or not you support it in the first place. It is obviousÐŽ¦ that you must support what your country is doing. There is no other choice.ÐŽ± By at the least continuing to be informed and involved, we are supporting our country.
By being drawn in and up to date, we show we actually care enough about our country to know whatЎЇs going on. All it takes is just maybe once a week turning on the news or the radio. Recent polls prove that 67% of people think President Bush could have done more for the Katrina relief efforts, while BushЎЇs overall job disapproval rating by September 2005 has slipped to 52%.
