Negative Impact of Snapchat
- Like we have stated people of all ages are now using various types of social media to communicate with friends, family, and even strangers. These forms can have both positive and negative impacts. Our surveys concluded that people believed Snapchat had a more positive impact, however research online shows Snapchat has negative impacts to relationships also.
- Sending quick photos and videos with comments is not a realistic means of communication, and does not adequately show a good representation of emotions. This kind of interaction negatively affects developing relationships and interpersonal communication
- When using Snapchat conversations are very short, opposed to talking in person. Where the reason you are interacting with them is because the person intellectually intrigues you.
- Interpersonal com requires you to have face to face communication to exchange information, though snapchat in a way is face to face its not an efficient enough way to connect with the person on the level of exchanging in depth meaningful conversation
- Another way the app can have negative impact is when it comes to your personal life/career. Anything put on the internet has ways to be traced and recovered. Recently millions of accounts were compromised according to professionalsocialmedia.blog.com. Even though pictures or videos sent on Snapchat are removed after 10 seconds, images that are sent still can be damaging to a career or personal life.
- Snapchat has been called the mobile version of flirting, due to a wink only lasting seconds. And there are 3 ways snapchat can ruin your relatioship
- It encourages sending flirty photos that can’t be traced. The fact that Snapchat photos disappear after a few seconds makes it more tempting for people to want to stray from their significant other.
- Its already seen as “secretive and suspicious.” Users are well-aware that getting away with cheating is rather easy on Snapchat, so it makes partners jealous, insecure, and paranoid. A recent study according to CNN found that Snapchat made young people more jealous than even Facebook. Researchers concluded that these young users assumed that the activity going on was inherently "secretive and suspicious."
- It puts pressure on couples to make sure their each other’s “best friends.” Recently in the year the app removed the “best friend” feature that let you see which users connected the most. In its place are now a bunch of emojis that signify two users connections.
- Snapchat was created as a safe way to sext. Currently, the creators of SnapChat are busy suing one another about who really created the application in the first place. The case has revealed documents which confirm what everyone has known since the beginning. SnapChat was created as a “safe” sexting app.
- Snapchat doesn’t allow a person to go through the four stages of relationship development.
- By only sending pictures and brief sentences, one doesn’t disclose in-depth. Also the likely hood of meeting the person you are Snapchatting is low due to this person not being someone you know well.
